Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hullbridge on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at
Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club Won 5 Wickets

After the disappointment of last week, it was important to get back to winning ways
quickly to maintain our challenge for promotion. Our opponents win the toss and decide to bat.

The 2 Hullbridge openers start quite aggressively and chalk up 2 or 3 early boundries
off of our normal pairing of DG and Lulu. Oxley, who nearly always gets runs against us, had started to look ominous when he miscued a pull to square leg. Posh
moving round swiftly to take a good catch. 1 wicket soon became 2 when Lulu picked up his 2nd wicket , bowling the No.3 for a duck.

DG suffered some bad luck before he was replaced by Bunny, whilst Lulu continued
manfully from the other end. He actually bowls through his 12 overs, taking a 3rd wicket, courtesy of a fine catch by Hillzy at short cover.

Bunny had by now settled in and taken 2 wickets in an over to help take the initiative,
and, along with Neil, kept a tight grip on the scoring rate.

Mid innings drinks came and went, wickets kept falling, still with us holding a tight grip on the scoring rate. Despite a flurry of boundries in the last half a dozen overs we had done very well to restrict our opponents to 154-9 in 45 overs.

The returning Boreham and Albert started our reply slowly, and with only 20 or so
runs off of the first 10 overs it was a bit of a jolt when Jason was bowled. DG went
in at No.3 and immediately hit a huge six into the oaks at square leg. Any thoughts of
a runaway win were dispelled, however, when he was also bowled going for an expansive drive.

Ever reliable Albert was by now accumulating runs in is trademark way and with Bunny edged the score up to, and beyond , the hundred mark. The scoring rate was
never really an issue but after a time Bunny, not for the first time, loses patience and
holes out to long on.

Victory was gained very comfortably despite the loss of Posh with 3 or 4 overs remaining. 155-4, Albert 83 not out.

Another workmanlike team performance this, which, along with a surprising result
at Galleywood, ensures we regain second spot.
