Galleywood II v Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 18 Jun 2005 at
Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club Won 123 runs
On the hottest day of the season so far we travel to our friends from Slades
Lane who were previously unbeaten.
Fortunately the toss is won and we start our innings at a blistering pace. Deano
scores 11 boundries and with a more sedate Boreham in partnership they amass
70 within 11 overs.
Once Deano is bowled for a cameo 60 there follows a quieter spell up until the first
drinks break at 15 overs. After that slight lull however runs are scored at a cracking
pace.
Boreham becoming more confident as the overs tick by and the more aggressive Bun
take the score up to 210ish by the 35th over when a very hot and bothered skipper takes one to many swings and is bowled.
Enter Borehams dad to exibit his combination skills of slogging and quick running.
By the end of the last of the 45 overs the score had risen to a massive 295-3. The 3rd
wicket being that of Ford senior unfortunately being run out at the backing up end.
Jason, though, reached a very well constructed 100 not out.
Surely our reliable bowling was to good to allow Galleywood a sniff………
DG and Micky Lewis opened up and although hit for the occasional boundry in general keep a tight reign on the scoring. Fielding is as sharp as it can be in the
extreme heat and it is not long before wickets are lost in the massive chase.
Micky actually takes 4 and although DG remains wicketless by the time they are both
bowled out in the 24th over the game is as good as won. Top effort from both of them.
Although the very consistant and dangerous Stuart Pinkerton scores a very creditable
half century he lacks any real assistance in meeting the required scoring rate.
The change bowlers in turn make way for young guns Horney and Hillzy who pick up 2 & 1 wicket respectively and the minor irritant of missing out on the last bowling point hardly matters as the inning closes at 172-8.
Hard to imagine how the team could have performed any better and dare I say it are
at this point genuine title contenders.
