Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club 2nd XI v Margaretting on Sat 28 May 2005 at
Hatfield Peverel Cricket Club Won 106 Runs
As is customary, skipper loses the toss and we are inserted on what looks like quite a green wicket.
Boreham and Deano open in a quiet and sedate way until, firstly, Deano loses the match ball and then, after a lenghtly stoppage, gets out caught at slip.
DG comes and goes quickly and captain (the groin) flatters to deceive, goes to a rash shot. Jason, batting with responsibility well beyond his tender years, however, ensures no further mishaps and reaches his second half century of the season just after the mid innings drink break.
His father Dean joined him and was soon showing son how to step up the scoring rate.
Jason was eventually out caught round the corner and when Monkey joined Ford senior there followed a match winning partnership of nearly a hundred.
A combination of hard hitting and swift running completely took the game by the scruff of the neck and innings closed on 230 for 7. Dean 53, Adam 48.
After sampling a Ford tea (Mrs) we took to the field expecting to make early in roads on the Margaretting batting line up.
DG takes 3-14 in a very hostile opening spell, Mick Lewis chips in with a 1 for at the other end ensuring that the stranglehold on the match is not lost.
Even Ian Austins brutal attack on the change bowlers (46 in 20 minutes) could not change the inevitable and eventually the reply petered out at 124 all out with at least 10 overs remaining.
Nice to get back on the winning trail………
